Our bright, energetic little one is 9 months now.
Even back at the postpartum care center, she had a great appetite and endless energy.
She started crawling at 8 months—
and funny enough, I’d heard starting a bit later can be better…
so I like to think she’s a thoughtful girl.
When she was learning to roll over, she’d still thunk her head on the crib—even with the guard on.
Before crawling, she’d grab the railings, pop her head up like a tiny weightlifter, and—yep—bump again.
Poor thing.
I’m not sure if every baby does this, but ours has seriously strong arms.
She pushes herself around with her hands, pivots on one leg, spins, and even scoots backward—basically her own little workout routine.
Lots of little bumps along the way.
Once crawling started, I realized we needed a head protector.
“As in, today.”
And since everyone says babies fall more once they start standing, that sealed it.
In our house, any baby gear requires a quick “why we need this” pitch to Dad
I made my case, and—ta-da—new gear!
Essential Baby Gear for Head Protection
1. BaileyBao Head Protector
It really does look like a tiny helmet.
Our baby usually yanks hats right off, so I wasn’t sure how this would go—but I had to try. Every head bump makes my heart drop.
Inside there’s a mesh shock-absorbing layer for airflow and less sweat.
It secures under the chin with Velcro, and the width adjusts easily.
Simple and practical.
2. RearAngel Baby Cushion
The rim is silicone (not hard plastic!), and the inside is a firm mesh—great for sweaty little heads.
It’s designed not to sit against the head most of the time;
when a baby falls backward, it flattens out to cushion the impact.
I plan to switch to this once she’s standing more.
3. eQoo Inflatable Cushion
This one was passed down to us.
I didn’t even realize there were inflatable styles—
I thought the “bee backpack” type was the only option!
It even came with a small pump.
The manual says,
“Once brain cells are damaged by impact, they do not regenerate.”
Yikes. That was… motivating.
I tried inflating it, but the air wouldn’t go in.Then I noticed the seams were torn.
Maybe it didn’t hold up in storage. Cute design, but the durability seems iffy.
First Wear Test
The biggest downside is sweat.
Thankfully, it’s winter, so that helps.
The first time I put it on, she played just fine—even pulled out her favorite book for a “read.”
So adorable.
Now, even near toy corners or chair legs,
I’m much calmer.
Face-plants still happen (can’t prevent everything!), but overall I worry less.
Before, if she crawled under a chair, I’d swoop in and bring her back to the mat.
Now I can let her explore a bit.
I even tried the helmet + cushion combo once, and it worked surprisingly well.
After about 40 minutes, I took it off—and wow, so much sweat.
So this isn’t an all-day thing; I use it mainly during active play.
Honestly, my heart feels steadier now.
Should’ve bought one sooner.
When she’s sitting quietly, I skip it, but during roaming/crawling time, it goes on.
She gets more freedom to move; I get peace of mind.

How to Use a Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer (Baby Temperature Care)
When our baby was born, we needed a thermometer, so I went on a search spree and found a simple, super handy pick. Mercury thermometers can be very accurate since you measure directly, but for checking formula temperature all the time or keeping an eye on
